Nokia Siemens signs €880 million equipment deals in China

Nokia Siemens Networks said Wednesday it will provide China Mobile and China Unicom with 2G and 3G (second and third generation) mobile equipment and services in deals worth €880 million ($1.1 billion).

According to a framework agreement signed with China United Network Telecommunications Corporation Limited, Nokia Siemens will build mobile networks in 11 Chinese provinces. It will also provide China Mobile Communications Corporation with mobile networks.

The Finnish-German company said it has invested in six research and development sites in China “to ensure the successful commercial launch of 3G and its further network evolution.”

“China is one of the most significant regions for the company’s global R&D, manufacturing and customer services portfolio,” Nokia Siemens said. “The company is suitably poised to support customers to launch cost-effective, high-quality 3G service and expand its market presence in China.”

Last year, Nokia Siemens signed a €550 million deal to expand a mobile telephone network for China Mobile, the world’s biggest mobile phone company measured by subscribers.
