Skype on BlackBerry In May

A BlackBerry version of the very popular Skype’s VoIP app will be available scheduled for a late spring release.

This free application will allow users to talk for free to other Skype clients, on desktops or phones. It will also allow users to call land-lines around the world at low rates. Unlike the other mobile versions of this application, the BlackBerry version will not allow calls over a cellular-wireless connection, only Wi-Fi.

A 3G connection can be used with Skype’s other features, like text chatting.

A number of features from the desktop version of this software won’t be in the BlackBerry one, including SMS, file transfers, and voice mail. It will also lack a feature that isn’t in any of the mobile versions: video conferencing.
