Palm is preparing for something big this year like the new webOS. We’ve seen on the Pre and others, however, Palm is delaying the launch and I cannot completely understand that as I’m sure there are lot of fans waiting anxiously for their future-favorite handsets. Meanwhile, I came across come interesting reports which showed that Palms is developing another cellphone dubbed as “mini Pre” and codenamed “Castle”. However, this is not a rumor anymore, although it wasn’t officially confirmed by Palm, it seems like the handset will be called EOS.

Now that we know its name, we are getting more interested in the Palm EOS. The next webOS-based smartphone will feature a 2.63″ 320 x 400 capacitive touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera with flash and video capabilities, 4GB of internal memory, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR and A2DP, and a 1150mAh removable battery.

The former Castle, now EOS measures 10.6 x 55 x 111 mm, weighs 100 grams, and it supports quad-band GSM / HSDPA therefore it is very likely that it will come to AT&T. Another proof in favor of AT&T is that the Palm EOS will feature contact synchronization with AT&T’s address book. Besides that, the next webOS smartphone will feature SMS text, MMS, IM clients, A-GPS, Cellular Video, MediaNet, POP3, IMAP4, and EAS email support, MPEG4, H.264, H.263 video support, and: WAV, MP3, AAC, audio support.

Although most Palm smartphones are heading to Sprint, this one will go to AT&T. I think it was a smart decision from Palm. We should see the Palm EOS on the market this year for a price of $349 before rebate.
