Nokia said today that its next flagship smartphone, the Nokia N97, will be available around the globe by the end of this month.

This device was originally scheduled to be released early this year, but customers are still waiting. Still, today’s announcment is good news — previously Nokia said this device would launch in July.

Although Nokia said today that the N97 will be available in more than 75 countries in June, it didn’t list any specific ones. Still, the company has begun taking pre-ordered in several countries, including the United States, Italy, Germany, and Sweden.

More about the Nokia N97
The Nokia N97 is going to be the second touchscreen-enabled Symbian S60 device from Nokia. It will feature a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 32 GB of internal memory, a 5 megapixel camera, and a microSDHC memory card slot.

Wireless options will include quad-band GSM, HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS w/A-GPS. The version made for N. America will have the 3G frequencies used in this area.

Other features of this device are going to include an electronic compass, TV-Out, a widget-based homescreen, and support for Nokia’s upcoming Ovi Store.

The N97 is being sold in the U.S. directly to consumers, and therefore without a carrier subsidy. That’s why the pricetag is $700.
